Principal All Call for October 2

Message for: Friday, October 2, 2020

Hello Hatton Families,

Just a reminder that attendance does count in remote learning. Teachers will be actively taking attendance using the three tracking methods: daily interactions or check-ins with the teacher to acknowledge attendance (primary method), assignment completion and digital logins to Google Classroom. Please note, if your child is ill and unable to participate in remote learning, you still need to call the school to report the student as absent. When calling the school to report the absence, be sure to include a reason for the absence. Students completing assignments and turning in work does count towards the grading process.

Dress for Success: The Akron School Board voted July 27 to suspend the normal dress code policy pertaining to uniforms for this school year. This means uniforms are not required for remote learning. However, students are still expected to dress appropriately for online learning. If you wouldn’t be allowed to wear an outfit to school during non-uniform days, it isn’t appropriate for remote learning. As another reminder, when students are in session with a Google Meet and they are not muted, all the other students can hear what is going on in the homes. Please be careful of conversations or things going on inside the home.

APS Plus will be open starting October 5th. What is APS Plus? It is an after-hours support center for K-12 tutoring and academic support, family support services, social-emotional support  and technology and google classroom troubleshooting. The hours are: Monday-Thursday 4-7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 330-761-7943 or visit our APS website Learning 2020. The center will provide families and students with additional resources after the school day has ended. The center will be staffed with high-quality educators, tutors and other professionals that will use Google Meet and phone calls to assist students and families with a variety of needs of services.

APS is asking all families to complete a survey. This survey is open October 1-October 9. A letter will be sent to all families with information and the link to complete the survey online. In addition, our APS website and our Hatton website contain the survey link along with information regarding both models. The survey is requesting you to make a choice between the potential of at least 2 days per week of site-based school (APS Blended Learning) or 100% of Remote Learning.

Last but not least, we will have Virtual Interim Conferences on Thursday, October 8 from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. I will have a special All Call on Monday evening to provide you with more information.

Have a great weekend!
