First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill Street, Akron, is hosting Camp Read-A-Lot. This is a FREE reading skills camp for children in grades kindergarten through third grade. The event will take place on Saturday, February 16 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm; including a free lunch. All children will receive a FREE book to take home!

Reading skills camp for children entering kindergarten through third grade

Camp Read-a-Lot provides fun, FREE activities for area children to keep their reading skills sharp. Children will build vocabulary and expand reading comprehension through:

Dramatic play

Games and activities


Story time

Service project



During the camp session, children will enjoy literacy-based activities that are designed to build skills in four areas of literacy: vocabulary, letters and sounds, comprehension, and fluency. They will also enjoy lunch, read great stories, and take part in a service project to give back to the community. Children will even get books to take home and keep (supplies are limited).
